Framing
The art of framing is a tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. Our highly skilled master framers use 100 percent archival materials. Only acid-free and PH balance materials come in contact with the art. Each work on paper framed by our capable staff is hinged by hand with a Japanese rice paper “butterfly” style latch. The hinge itself is adhered to the art and it’s backing with hand-mixed wheat paste, a process used in the Renaissance. Our access to thousands of molding profiles allows our design team to choose just the right treatment for the works. Styles ranging from early Spanish Baroque and Louis XIV to Contemporary are used regularly. As well as being our primary source for framing and fitting our permanent collection, our framing department is open to the public.
